This two-day itinerary combines the stunning coastal landscapes of Portoscuso, Nebida, and Masua (Day 1) with the serene beaches and hidden coves of Sant’Antioco Island (Day 2), using Carbonia as your starting and return point. It offers a comprehensive experience of the Sulcis Iglesiente coast, from dramatic cliffs and iconic sea stacks to tranquil beaches with crystal-clear waters, and charming coastal villages.
Itinerary overview
Day 1:
- Morning: Portopaglietto Beach (Portoscuso);
- Lunch: seaside dining in Portoscuso;
- Afternoon: panoramas of Nebida and Masua (Pan di Zucchero);
- Evening: return to Carbonia
Day 2:
- Morning: Maladroxia and Co’ e Cuaddus Beaches (Sant’Antioco);
- Lunch: seafront dining in Sant’Antioco;
- Afternoon: Calasetta (beaches and village);

A journey from Portopaglietto to the Gulf of Lion and the Island of Sant'Antioco
> Day 1: Portoscuso, Nebida e Masua
Morning (9:00 am– 12:30 pm)
> Portopaglietto beach (Portoscuso):
Drive from Carbonia to Portoscuso (approximately 20 minutes). Relax on this small, picturesque sandy bay surrounded by cliffs. Swim in the crystal-clear waters, bask in the sun, or take a leisurely walk along the shore while enjoying the coastal views.
- Duration: 1.5-2 hours.
Lunch (12:30 pm – 14:00 pm)
• Enjoy fresh seafood or traditional Sardinian dishes at one of the seaside restaurants or kiosks overlooking Portopaglietto Beach.
Afternoon (14:00 pm – 18:00 pm)
> Nebida and Masua:
Drive to Nebida (about 30 minutes from Portoscuso) to admire breathtaking views from the Belvedere. From here, marvel at the iconic Pan di Zucchero, the tallest sea stack in the Mediterranean. Continue to Masua, where you can stroll along the beach or relax at a panoramic café while taking in the dramatic contrast of the turquoise sea and rocky cliffs.
- Duration: 2–3 hours for sightseeing, photos, and short walks
Evening
Return to Carbonia (30–40 minutes). Enjoy a relaxing dinner in Carbonia or nearby, preparing for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Sant’Antioco island beaches
morning (9:00 am – 12:30 pm)
> Maladroxia
Drive from Carbonia to Sant’Antioco (about 20–25 minutes) and start your day at Maladroxia Beach. Known for its light-colored sand, shallow waters, and serene atmosphere, this beach is perfect for families and relaxation.
- Duration: 1.5-2 hours.
> Co’ e Cuaddus beach
Head to Co’ e Cuaddus, a more secluded and wild beach surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and rocky formations. Take another refreshing swim or simply soak in the natural beauty.

Lunch (12:30 pm – 14:00 pm)
Enjoy lunch at a seaside restaurant or kiosk in Sant’Antioco, savoring local seafood dishes while overlooking the sparkling sea.
Afternoon (14:00 pm – 18:00 pm)
> Calasetta: beaches and village
Drive to Calasetta on the northern tip of the island (about 20 minutes from Maladroxia). Spend the afternoon at Sottotorre Beach, known for its fine white sand and turquoise waters. Stroll through Calasetta’s charming village center, exploring its historic streets and the iconic tower that overlooks the sea.

Evening
Return to Carbonia (30–35 minutes). Wrap up your trip with a dinner in the city, enjoying traditional Sulcis dishes while reminiscing about the stunning beaches and panoramas you’ve explored.
