Nestled between Corso Iglesias and Via Alghero, Cannas di Sotto Urban Park is a place where lush greenery intertwines with archaeological remnants, creating a unique and evocative atmosphere.
During your Sulcis Iglesiente holiday, a visit to this park is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in tranquility and explore a glimpse of prenuragic life still preserved in its authentic form.

The park
Cannas di Sotto Urban Park is not just a green space, it’s a unique archaeological site closely connected to the nearby Villa Sulcis Archaeological Museum. The park houses a necropolis of Domus de Janas, ancient rock-cut tombs dating back to the Neolithic period, which tell the story of an ancestral Sardinia.
The Domus de Janas, whose name translates to “fairy houses,” are among the most distinctive features of prenuragic Sardinia. The park contains 26 of these tombs, divided into two main types:
- Vertical shaft entrances: accessed through an opening carved downward.
- Horizontal corridor entrances: featuring doorways set directly into the rock face, lending the site a unique charm.
Over the centuries, these funerary caves have been repurposed for various uses, serving as storage spaces, kilns, or animal shelters—a testament to the enduring connection between people and their land. Artifacts discovered in these tombs are now exhibited at the Villa Sulcis Archaeological Museum, further enriching the experience for visitors.
